Mr. Deng Fuyou (2013-2014)

Mr. DENG Fuyou is a NextFellow in our 2013-2014 programme. He serves as theregional project director of the Nanjing office of NPI, anon-profit organizingset up as the incubator and support platform for privatestart-up charities in China.

Mr. Deng is doing an invaluable job in NPI by managing the series of services provided to private and start-up charities in the Nanjing area. These services, ranging from seed “capital” provision, discounted office spaces, to training and support in terms of capacity building, fund raising and policy consultation, are proven popular and directly benefiting non-profit organizations that often struggle in the current legal and social context. The idea of incubator, borrowed from venture capitalists, is aiming at providing opportunities for the prospective teams and ideas to grow to their selective charitable causes.

Mr Deng has travelled far from a village boy in the poorer part of the country struggling to make ends meet. Drawing from his own life experiences, he has volunteered in poverty reduction and in the advance of civil society whilst in college, participating in series of teaching and volunteering programmes sponsored by UNICEF and National Women and Children Working Committee. He has spent most of the holidays on the ground, in the least developed parts ofChina, and won countless recognition for these activities. He gained much understanding in China’s charitable sector, and opted to join NPI in2010 upon graduation.

Mr. Deng, whilst still in his young age, has become a seasoned professional in China’s charitable sector. The Board of CNF was encouraged by his conscious choice, his achievements and demonstrable skillsets that can be put to use in the forthcoming civil society in China. We are confident that as one of the NextFellows, Mr.Deng is at a good position to leverage what he has learnt andhelp the efficiency and efficacy of Chinesecharities. Our best wishes to his future as one of prospective leaders in the civil society in China.
